A multigenerational home in the Derbyshire countryside | Also known as the Derbyshire Longhouse, it is a self-build project that has fulfilled the dreams and aspirations of the owners and their entire multigenerational family. Featured in April’s issue of the Grand Designs Magazine.
Mike and Sarah’s journey began when they visited a smallholding in the far-reaching hills in the Derbyshire dales, intending to purchase the land, build a sustainable home for the whole family, raise rare-breed sheep, and keep honey bees.
Planning permission was going to take a lot of work. Finally, after two long years of planning, the build was passed under the stringent requirements in Paragraph 80 a planning exception that allows the construction of new houses in the countryside.
The project started in February 2021 and was completed by August 2022.
The owner chose Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) for the build over a steel frame structure because of the speed of construction and superior thermal properties.
