We’re delighted to share some exciting news—SIP Build UK has been shortlisted in the Custom & Self-Build Project of the Year category at the Structural Timber Awards 2025 for our work on The Gables.
These prestigious awards celebrate the best in timber construction across the UK, recognising innovation, sustainability, and design excellence. The winners will be revealed on 1 October 2025 at the industry’s annual awards ceremony.
About The Gables
The Gables is a striking example of what structural insulated panel (SIP) construction can achieve. Designed to meet the client’s goals for aesthetics, thermal performance, and sustainability, it showcases:
Vaulted ceilings and a dramatic open stairwell for an airy, spacious feel.
Large glazed areas that maximise daylight and frame beautiful views.
175mm SIPs delivering U-values of 0.15 without additional insulation.
Glulam beams that combine structural strength with visual warmth.
Rapid Build on a Tight Site
Building this home required careful planning. The plot had tight access next to a busy school, which meant that traffic management and logistics were critical.
We used small HIAB-offload vehicles and just-in-time SIP panel deliveries to keep the site organised, reduce disruption, and maintain smooth progress. As a result, the main house and annex (above a large garage) were installed in only 11 weeks. This fast turnaround allowed follow-on trades to start sooner, compressing the overall build schedule.

Fabric-First Performance and Sustainability
From the outset, The Gables followed a fabric-first approach, ensuring high thermal performance directly from the building envelope.
Key sustainability and performance highlights include:
Early-stage Part O compliance and TM59 overheating modelling.
MVHR and underfloor heating systems optimised for the SIP structure.
Responsibly sourced PEFC/FSC-certified timber.
Low embodied carbon and minimal construction waste.
This approach not only lowered environmental impact but also delivered long-term comfort and reduced running costs for the homeowners.
A True Team Effort
The Gables was the result of strong collaboration between the architect, main contractor, and SIP Build UK.
By taking full responsibility for design, engineering, and installation—including steels, Glulam beams, intermediate floors, and internal walls—we minimised risk, improved accuracy, and delivered a seamless, on-time build.
