It’s going to be One Hull of a final | The powerboat sponsored by Sip Build UK, which supplies and builds Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) on site, is racing in the third and final round of the 2013 P1 Superstock Championship in Torquay this weekend.

The One Hull of a Boat team are aiming to improve on their ranking of sixth in the event – to be screened by Sky Sports – at 3pm on Saturday.

It will round off a thrilling adventure which began because of a logistical mix up, which left a spare boat in the UK.  The Hull community clubbed together to raise more than £24,000 to enable the boat to compete and promote the city around the world, perfectly timed ahead of its proposal to be crowned the UK’s City of Culture in 2017.

Castleford-based Sip build UK is sponsoring the kit for the crew, while the team have been backed by an army of Yorkshire-based businesses offering them all an opportunity for global media awareness, networking and partner opportunities.

Following the previous race in Plymouth the team pulled their boat back up to Hull and delivered it to the Sirius Academy.

Local drivers Jonathan Searby and Sam Whitaker explained their story to pupils there and left the boat on show for them to study.

Jonathan said: “Our aim with the schools kids is to tell them that if you put your mind to something you can achieve what you think is the impossible and working together as a team can have a huge, positive impact on yourself and others around you.

“Hull is still buzzing so much about this and our aim is to keep the interest as long as possible to the build up to next year’s event so we can make it bigger and better.”

Sip build UK managing director Chris Duckworth said: “I’m a bit of a petrol head at heart so I’m really proud to be involved in supporting One Hull of a Boat. It shows what the power of community can achieve and it will promote Hull and what it has to offer around the world.”

P1 SuperStock is a racing series in the UK based on using identical boats, a 28 ft P1 Panther with a 250hp outboard engine.
